COLLABORATION IN ACTION:
Extending the Reach of Accessible Learning Videos

CAST’s National Center on Accessible Educational Materials (AEM), Bridge Multimedia, and the Described and Captioned Media Program (DCMP) have teamed up to further the sustainability of Accessible Learning Across the Lifespan, a four-part video series funded by the U.S. Department of Education Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP).

This fully accessible series examines accessibility as it impacts people with disabilities from childhood to adulthood, including entry into the workforce.  The videos include captioning, audio description, and American Sign Language provided by Deaf interpreters.

DCMP worked closely with CAST’s AEM Center and Bridge in posting the series on the U.S. Department of Education’s free Television Access Portal, greatly expanding its availability. Wendy Sapp, Ph.D., Bridge Multimedia’s Senior Project Director said,

The four-part series of 10-minute videos include episodes titled:

  • Intro to Accessibility
  • Features We Can Start Using Today
  • Designing for Accessibility from the Beginning
  • People with Disabilities in the Workforce

In addition to being posted on the ED/OSEP DCMP Television Access Portal, the series is also available on AEM’s YouTube channel and on the Bridge website. According to Cynthia Curry, Project Director of CAST’s AEM Center, “I really urge all accessibility agencies to be open to partnering with different organizations within our industry. I can speak firsthand about the exciting rewards of collaboration, sharing of resources, and exchange of ideas in furthering accessibility.”
