Join us for Catherine Russell Sings in Barcelona, Virtually, at a special combined event presented by the Advanced Research Seminar on Audio Description (ARSAD) and Media for All 9, Wednesday, January 27, 2021, 7:00 PM (CET).

International communication specialists will discuss sign language interpretation of wordplay and innuendo within jazz performances… how to sign them and how to audio describe them.

Guests include:

  • Jazz & Blues Singer, Catherine Russell – An American jazz legend and Grammy-winning vocalist will spotlight the universal language in a fresh context
  • ASL Interpreter, Jesse Jones III – An active member of the Deaf community and founding member of the hip-hop Deaf dance troupe HipZu Funk interprets the tunes
  • Audio Description Writer, Sheilarae Lau – Bridge’s Head Description Writer will discuss the art and science of audio describing American Sign Language
  • Linguist, Marcel Ortín – Universitat Pompeu Fabra’s renowned researcher, author, and translator will discuss the history of double entendres
  • Sign Language Director, Michael Sullivan – American Sign Language Interpreter and Director of Sonas Communication will discuss integrating ASL in jazz lyrics
  • Video Director, Jason Hammonds – Director/Producer/Editor of numerous videography and media productions talks about putting the whole show together
  • Executive Producer, Matt Kaplowitz – gets us all thinking about accessibility in a new way, while keeping the beat!
