During this festive season it’s especially important to remember those who serve in the armed forces and appreciate their sacrifices. Bridge Multimedia and our television production partner, Hearst Media Production Group (HMPG), understand that accessible television programming must be available to military families, no matter where they are stationed. Thanks to our longstanding partnership, and funding from OSEP, hundreds of hours of Emmy Award-winning Educational/Informational (E/I) programming is available free of charge with captioning and audio description for the American Forces Network (AFN).
The AFN is a government television and radio broadcast service that the United States Armed Forces provide to soldiers stationed in over 170 territories throughout the world. For over a decade, they have broadcast HPMG’s popular weekly E/I programming blocks with accessible shows including Jack Hanna’s Into the Wild, Ocean Mysteries with Jeff Corwin, and dozens of others. In 2018, the AFN’s Industry Liaison Officer sent a letter to the FCC lauding the programming, saying it “supports academic and cognitive learning efforts present in Department of Defense Educational Administration schools, located abroad.”
Bridge CEO, Matt Kaplowitz, said,
“The disability community intersects with every other community within our society. Universal access brings everyone together.”
Frank Biancuzzo, President of HPMG said,
“We’re honored to provide quality E/I programming to military families through the AFN and our accessibility partners, Bridge Multimedia.”
