Bridge, STEMIE, and OSEP Partner to Create a Children’s STEM App

My STEM Adventure, a free app designed to teach STEM concepts to children, is now available to download at The App Store and at Google Play. My STEM Adventure was developed by Bridge Multimedia and The STEM Innovation for Inclusion in Early Education (STEMIE) Center, in association with FableVision Studios. Support was provided by U.S. Department of Education Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) Education Technology, Media and Materials funding.

My STEM Adventure
is a combination of a video game, a scavenger hunt, and a create-your-own-story app. After you’ve finished each activity, you can print the individualized story of your educational STEM adventure as a PDF or generate it as an e-book (with your voice). The innovative app has a lot of special features. Before even starting the game, you can adjust the settings exactly to your liking. That includes English or Spanish, sound volume, and a full range of accessibility features. There’s captioning, audio description, switch access, and eye-tracking technology. You can adjust caption size and color and you can modify sounds and visuals. There’s also a special introduction for parents.

According to Bridge’s Senior Research Director, Dr. Wendy Sapp, “Bridge collaborated closely with STEMIE at the UNC Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute to create a family-friendly app that teaches science concepts such as pattern recognition, sequencing, and developing hypotheses. It also offers SEL (social-emotional learning) elements like co-operation and empowerment.” Bridge’s CEO Matt Kaplowitz said, “Working with STEMIE Co-Directors Dr. Lim and Dr. Vinh is always an amazing experience. They are such innovators in the field of Early STEM Learning. Bridge produced the STEMIE Center’s last three virtual STEMIE Fest events, providing bilingual presentations, ASL, captions, and integrated audio descriptions. We look forward to many more projects with the STEMIE Center in the future.”
