In honor of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) Bridge is delighted to have provided audio description, captioning, ASL, and WCAG 2.1 AA compliant transcripts for People with Disabilities in the Workforce, one of four videos about Accessible Educational Media for CAST’s Accessible Educational Materials Center (aka, AEM Center). Bridge worked closely with Cynthia Curry, Director of the AEM Center on the video, which was funded by the U.S. Department of Education Office of Special. Education Programs (OSEP).
People with Disabilities in the Workforce, produced by Galdos Pictures, features Educational Research Scientist, Amanda Bastoni and Bridge Multimedia’s Technical Engineer, Louis Milisci. Mr. Milisci, a man with autism, offered advice to employers, “If you require a lot of data entry and don’t need someone who is talking all the time, you could hire a person with autism, and they’ll fit right in. You could even create a new role specifically for them, which is what happened with me.”
Held annually in October, National Disability Employment Awareness Month is led by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy. According to their website, the purpose of NDEAM is to “educate about disability employment issues and celebrate the many and varied contributions of America’s workers with disabilities.” The theme for this year, “America’s Recovery: Powered by Inclusion,” perfectly reflects Bridge’s mission to support a diverse, dynamic, inclusive workforce during these challenging times –and beyond.
